The Greatness of Sports

Are you serious?!!! (insert Dick Vitale's voice)
The 49er vs. Saints game was one of the best playoff games I've ever seen.
Four lead changes in the final 4 minutes-
all touchdowns.
(and don't forget that I predicted the 49ers to win. see below)

But what really caught my attention is the similarity in how the game finished
to another instant classic 49er playoff game back in 1998.

Similarities:
Playoff comeback wins
In San Francisco
Same end of the Stadium
Touchdown was made with less than 10 seconds to go.
Route was a post route from the seam of the field to the middle
Defensive secondary colliding as the catch is made
Player makes catch and falls into the end zone
and the best one.....
Both players (Vernon Davis and Terrell Owens) are overcome with joy
and can be seen crying their eyes out on the sideline.

2012 Game- Final Drive
(sorry for the poor quality- best video I could find at the time)

1998 Game Highlights

This is truly was sports is all about.
Teams and players working together, trusting each other
all towards one common goal.

This one game will be unforgettable for both
those who watched it and played in it.

If we ever again see a play like these two,
let us be reminded of the greatness of sports!

A Great Year for Sports

Does it seem that every year is a great year for sports?
2011 sure has had some amazing moments...
....and I expect that 2012 will be even better.

Heck, we've gotten all the crap out of the way
(i.e. NFL and NBA lockouts)
(a.k.a. the "walkout" by my wife)
so we won't need to worry about that for another 10 years.

Also, the MLB extended its collective bargaining agreement until 2016.
Amazing how no one hears about it when people aren't fighting over it.
Bud Selig (kind of reminds me of Monty Burns) has finally agreed to extend the reach of replay.
I hear he may consider testing for PEDs,
but some argue that it would take away from the tradition of the game.
I wonder what they will decide.

Enough jibber jabber though- let's talk sports.
This is Sports Talk City after all!

Here are my picks for this year's major sports winners:

NFL: Packers.....Cause zero losses is infinitely better than the next best team.

NBA: Hate....-that was a trick-....Heat. I see the big 2 & co having an unstoppable year.
Good for them- seriously.

MLB: Angels.....why not? Obviously it's a flavor of the week pick... But I remember watching "Angels in the Outfield" 3 times in one afternoon when I was younger (insert waving arms).

PGA: Adam Scott.....It's almost impossible to pick an overall winner on the PGA Tour,
but with his new caddie and coming off a pretty good year, I like my chances.

Coming soon: More discussion on this year's top teams
